NEW COUNTY PLAN TO CLEAN ONONDAGA LAKE

Syracuse, New York – Onondaga County officials have formally submitted a revised plan to clean up Onondaga Lake. 

County officials recently submitted to US District Judge Frederick Scullin a plan that will forgo the construction of three new neighborhood treatment plants. The new proposed plan will call for the construction of two large underground storage facilities, and an extensive program to implement green infrastructure throughout the City to capture storm water runoff where it lands. NEW ROOF INSTALLED AT JAMESVILLE CORRECTIONAL FACILITY

Syracuse, New York -  Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney today showed off the new green roofs installed at Jamesville Correctional Facility. The 26-year-old facility was in need of roof and masonry repair, and had the unique design of four identical housing units that afforded the opportunity to study how different green roof technology works in our upstate New York climate.
 
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds of $235,000 were obtained for the project through the Green Innovation Grant Program.   These funds paid for 90% of the green roof portion of the project. Total cost for all four roofs was about $1.9 million.

GOVERNOR PATERSON ANNOUNCES $6.3 MILLION IN STIMULUS FUNDS FOR CLEAN WATER PROJECTS IN CENTRAL NEW YORK

Governor David A. Paterson today announced $6.3 million for innovative water quality projects in Central New York through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The funds were awarded to nine different projects through a new State initiative known as the Green Innovation Grant Program, which promotes sustainable, environmentally sensitive water infrastructure and technologies.
