Judy Boyke, Joe Ruscitto, Lynn Jennings, and Tom Mafrici were among the many people turing out on September 25th to commemorate the birthplace of Matilda Joslyn Gage in Cicero, NY. Judy Boyke was honored to support the placement of this historical marker, funded through a generous grant from the William G Pomeroy Foundation. The Cicero Historical Society through the work of Joan Kesel, candidate for County Legislature, also provided support.
Matilda Joslyn Gage was an early women’s rights activist and suffragist. She was the daughter of one of Cicero’s earliest physician’s Hezekiah Joslyn. Gage was a prolific writer on a wide variety of subjects, and was one of the speakers at the Third National Women’s Rights Convention held in Syracuse, NY in 1852.
